Acts 8:30-31
“So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ And he said, ‘How can I, unless someone guides me?’ And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him.”

Returning from Jerusalem, the high official was reading the prophet Isaiah but did not understand its meaning. He let Philip ride in his chariot and agreed to listen. To explain the passage he did not understand, Philip preached the gospel. His preaching touched the stranger and he was baptized.

Romans 10:13
“For ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’”

True faith is not based on God’s visible activity, but on His word. We must believe in the salvation God offers.

Psalm 57:10
“For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens, and Your truth unto the clouds.”

In His goodness and grace, God grants us access to eternal fellowship with Him. Being faithful and true, He keeps all of His promises. In order to be saved, we must believe, repent, and remain faithful. We express our gratitude by serving God and our neighbor, and by contributing to the unity of the church.

Revelation 1:17b-18
“I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive  forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.”

Christ’s message is for all of us—the living and the dead—the gospel is valid here on earth and in the yonder world: “Come! And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely” (Rev 22:17). There is no good reason not to answer this invitation…

Matthew 5:16
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Jesus is the light of the world. We make His light shine by modeling our lives after Jesus’s example. We believe that God loves the departed and prays for their salvation.
